Since Sauvage's release, it's been one of the most talked about, popular, and criticized fragrance around the world.

When a fragrance gets popular this fast, you know there is something to it that makes it special. In Sauvage's case, it's the sexiness factor.

In the last year we've seen it become one of the highest complimenting fragrances in the world and in 2018 it might even be number one.

What makes it special is that it doesn't smell like all the light, fresh, citrusy scents that most people like. This one smells a little different.

This fragrance needs to be owned and be used. A LOT!

Pros

  • One of the sexiest fragrances you can find
  • Whether you like it or not, you receive compliments from it
  • Lasts the standard amount of time that you would expect a fragrance to last

Cons

  • Has become quite popular. Chances are someone around you could be wearing it

Introduction

If this is you're first time learning about Dior Sauvage, welcome to the party. This fragrance has been the most existing thing to hit the perfume world since Acqua Di Gio did it in the mid 90s.

Sauvage is appealing because it doesn't smell like every other fresh, citrus fragrance on the market. It has it's own unique flavor that people respect.

Undoubtedly, if you've seen the quick summary, you know how sexy people find it. If you didn't know any better, you would think this fragrance was an aphrodisiac.

When and by whom was it made?

Francois Demachy is the name behind the smell. If you're not too big into names, check out some of the fragrances he's made.

This is a pretty respectable list since we've featured them all on CologneMasters at some point.

Dior Sauvage was launched in 2015 and believe it or not, it was inspired by the fragrance Eau Sauvage which was made in 1966.

Cologne Master's Experience Wearing Sauvage

With every fragrance that I review, I spend a period of 1-3 weeks wearing it. Sauvage was no different where I had the opportunity to wear it during the November through January holiday season.

This meant I was able to wear it around friends, families, and several random people that I don't typically associate with.

Usually I take my fragrance to work with me and see if my co-workers and customers can give me some opinions but that didn't work out this time since I was recovering from surgery.

Anyways, I was more than excited to try Sauvage. It seemed to be loved by main stream fragrance reviewers like Jeremy Fragrance, but hated by perfume connoisseurs like Kevin over at NST whom said "it smells cheap and abrasive (like a Whole Foods "natural" household cleaner)".

When you see this type of conflict between fume-heads and the main-stream reviewers, you'll have to accept I get a little excited to see what it actually smells like.

It is not ordinary for me to receive a compliment on how I smell (yes I shower regularly). Every where I turned, not only was I noticed, but I was told I smelled and great and was pressured to tell them what it was.

For Christmas my sister gave me an unsolicited compliment on how I smelled. This was after several hours of driving. It's rare for her to say anything nice in my direction.

Some of my friends picked me up to go out to dinner for the evening. I sprayed Sauvage 6 hours before.

When I entered their vehicle, they immediately asked what I was wearing and that they thought it smelled incredible. This was odd for me because I could no longer smell it on myself but here these grown men could smell it from over an arms length away.

As far as I could tell, I didn't receive a negative reaction from anyone.

Overall, my experience wearing Sauvage has been one of the most positive experiences I've ever had.

Cologne Master's Thoughts

As soon as I smelled Sauvage, I knew it was going to be a hit. The hype, the excitement, and stories were all true. It's just like when you smell Acqua Di Gio, you know there is something special about it.

Sauvage has already been on several of our top lists including the most popular list and one of the highest compliment getters. To be on these lists, it has to be loved by the community.

The community loves it, I love it, and it's heading straight to my list of personal recommendations for people looking for a good scent.

The Scent - Smells terrific. I like it because it doesn't smell like every other popular fragrance on the market today. However, many people disagree with me on this as it's about 60/40 like/dislike ratio.

It opens with a fresh, citrus smell backed with a little pepper. With a blend of amber, musk, and pepper, it gives Sauvage a nice sweet smell to it that resinates well with women.

It's Sexy - Perhaps the biggest critique of mine is my significant other. The past few months of wearing it, she's commented how much she enjoys it almost every day that I wear it.

The unsolicited compliments and people noticing me was far above what a normal fragrance does.

The Bottle - Looks great! If you're going to spend $100 on a fragrance, the bottle better look as cool too! I like the magnetic cap that sort of closes the bottle for you. A great touch!

What Do Other Fragrance Reviewers Say About Sauvage?

Jeremy Fragrance does a nice review on what Sauvage smells like. Although we don't always agree with what he says, he hits the nail on the head with Sauvage with what he's saying.

One thing we don't 100% agree with is that Sauvage smells like 30 other fragrances.

When it comes to cologne that is widely worn by the community, Sauvage does not smell like them. You'll hear slight comparisons but never any copycats.

For someone like Jeremy that is a collector of fragrances, sure this smells like many other fragrances. But for a normal person that owns less than 10 bottles, you'll say that this stands out.

Big Beard Business talks about how safe this fragrance is throughout the entire review. Talks about wearing it during all seasons, day or night, and for any occasion.

Another point Big Beard Business makes is that many people wear it already. This could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Popular fragrances are more well-liked by more people so you know they're good.

However, there is a chance that you'll smell like someone near you and if that bothers you too much, you may not want to leap out and grab it.

What Do Members of The Community Say About Sauvage by Dior?

Now we get to my favorite part. This is where we get to ask regular people what they think about Sauvage and their experience wearing it.

"I didnt even let the sample spray dry on my skin before I was pulling out my card to buy this."

"I have now worn Sauvage enough times to know that I like it.
The citrus opening is what I'm looking for and delivers a masculine vibe.

As it dries down, this really begins to remind me of Terre d'hermes, the vetiver note I think. I love TdH and also enjoy this.
I can see how this scent is polarizing, but at the end of the day, with enough time, I enjoy wearing it and I feel confident knowing it's on my body. For me that is all that counts."

"Every time I wear Sauvage, I recevie unsolicited compliments from my Uber drivers when typically how I smell is rarely noticed. This does need 15 minutes to settle down so don't spray it and walk out the door. I'm also amazed as the scent wears off from my nose, people still tell they can smell it. Not too many frags do that."

Who should buy Sauvage by Christian Dior?

If you're looking for something sexy...

If you're under the age of 40...

You're looking for a versatile fragrance for any occasion...

Age Group: Under 40

In the last year, the popularity of Sauvage has skyrocketed. Although anyone can wear this fragrance, if you're over 40 it is time to find something a little more unique.

Season: All seasons

Sauvage can be worn all-day everyday if you want to. Extremely versatile.

Time of Day: Day or Night

Wear Sauvage to work, or take it to for a night out. It works.

Gift?: Yes

Sauvage works as a gift but only to the right person. If you're buying a fragrance for someone that's looking too woo someone or if they currently have no fragrances, this is it.

Because it smells synthetic, I wouldn't recommend giving it to a nature lover.

Longevity: Mediocre

Although I've experienced great longevity with Sauvage (at least 8 hours), the community at large says it has average longevity.

Harmless? – Yes

Sauvage is safe to wear anywhere which means it's harmless.

Popularity – Extremely popular

This is currently one of the most popular fragrances on the market today and will only get more popular.

Price – Not The best

You'll be paying a few bucks for Sauvage. If you can find it under $100, it's a pretty good purchase. Find it here.

Sexy – One of the Sexiest

It seems like this is why it was made. People describe it as a heavy compliment getter or sexy 40% of the time.

Signature Cologne – Yes

If you only had one fragrance in your wallet, you would be perfectly happy with it being Sauvage.
